Swinging Women
Swinging Hammers that is. That's me, Kathy Garland, on the front row with the blue cap. I joined a group of friends in May to help build a Habitat for Humanity home. Read below to find out what I learned that applies to sales. |
|
|
Last month, I joined a team of women to participate in building a home for Habitat for Humanity. I have never done something like this and hate to admit that I'm not even good with a hammer.
The team leaders and other volunteers were very helpful to those of us who qualify as "unskilled labor." We had a fun day, I learned quite a lot, and found out that the people on the Habitat for Humanity team that lead the projects are very precise and detailed. They build a quality home for their recipients.
So you ask, what does this have to do with sales? Like building a home, reaching your sales goals requires planning and the right tools. This month and next, I will discuss important aspects of sales that I observed while working on the Habitat for Humanity Home.
Before any home is built, an extensive plan needs to be developed. It is the same with your sales.
Planning
Building a house requires extensive planning. It begins with a blueprint. From the design of the house to the right team, to the tools and materials onsite at the right time, all details need to be managed. Lack of poor planning causes delays, frustration and could compromise the quality of the final product.
It's the same way with sales. You have a goal to reach. Without careful planning, you risk missing your goals. Here are some ideas to help you create a sales blueprint.
- Who is your target? The more focused the better.
- How do you reach them? Where will you find them?
- How often will you contact them? It often takes anywhere from 7 - 11 times for people to notice your message.
- What happens after you meet people - how do you stay in touch with them?
- What are the triggers you use to persuade people to buy? In other words, what are the problems you solve?
Tools
Until I found the right tools, the task was difficult for me. I arrived without a tool belt, no hammer and nothing to keep my hair out of my face (the worst!)
Fortunately, someone found an extra tool belt; I bought a Habitat Hat and shared a hammer with a colleague. After that, it was a piece of cake - well, almost.
Just like in building a house, in sales we need the right tools. Most of us have the standard tools of database, business cards and website. Here are some new tools to add to your toolkit that can help you build your brand and set yourself apart.
- Free report on an area of your expertise
- Profile on LinkedIn - www.linkedin.com Link to hundreds of potential customers and joint venture opportunities through this site.
- Video Email capabilities - Build your brand through video email. Check out the Business Overview at www.vmdirect.com/themessengers to understand this program.
- Send Out Cards - Build your relationship with customers and business partners through this easy and creative way to send cards: www.sendoutcards.com/9086
- If you have questions about Video email and Send Out Cards, contact Cindy Daniels at 952-941-9300 or email cdaniels@inspiringinsight.com. Cindy can help you use these tools to build your visibility with your target audience.

Novel Approaches to Managing Time, Energy, and Productivity.
We've all heard the 'rules' and 'best practices' for managing time, things like prioritizing your tasks and then only working on the top priorities. If it's that simple, why can't we do it? Why do we feel like we can barely keep up or, worse, feel like we are falling more and more behind?
In the second of my teleseminar series to bring you topics to help you increase sales and improve your performance, I will be interviewing Vicki Wrona, who is an expert in project management and productivity.
This teleconference will give you new ideas and approaches to managing your time, priorities, and energy. It won't promise to fix all your worries in one hour with a snap of the fingers, but it will give you easy to do ideas that you can put into practice the very next day.
In the end, you can be more productive and less stressed! Who doesn't want that?!
Join Vicki and me in this one hour teleconference to discuss these novel ideas. Included in the discussion will be tips, examples, stories, and medical research. There will be time at the end for questions and answers.
Discover secrets that will help you reduce stress, increase your focus and manage your projects with less effort.
We are offering this valuable teleconference to you at no charge. You do need to register in order to receive dial-in information.
